Navrongo Health Research Centre (NHRC)

The NHRC is one of three research centres of the Research and Development Division of the Ghana Health Service. The centre begun from the Ghana VAST Project, a pair of vitamin A trials conducted between 1988 and 1992. NHRC is located at Navrongo in the Kassena- Nankana Municipality of the Upper East Region of Ghana.

The centre achieves its mission by focusing primarily on assessing the impact of interventions through community and clinical trials, social and demographic research, and human resource development. As a research institution, the Centre is committed to the improvement of the health status of Ghanaians and the world at large. For over 30 years, it has been at the forefront of groundbreaking studies such as the Vitamin A Supplementation Trials, the Bednet Trials, other vaccine trials, and collaborative efforts, working closely with local and international partners to address critical health challenges. NHRC strives to generate evidence that informs policies, shapes interventions, and contributes to the overall development of healthcare systems.
